About the Catana 70
The Catana 70 is an earlier-generation large performance-cruising catamaran, distinct from the Catana 721 and Catana 90. Reverse bows and angular hulls give it a purposeful profile, while curved daggerboards reduce draft when raised and improve lateral resistance when lowered; they are not foils for airborne sailing. Infused composite construction incorporates selective carbon reinforcement rather than an all-carbon structure.
The cockpit and saloon continue that performance-cruising brief with practical living on a single level, and sliding pocket glass opens them into a broad indoor-outdoor area. A central island galley serves meals efficiently to both spaces, helping hosts remain part of the conversation. Separate hull accommodations place sleeping areas away from the central social zone, supporting privacy and quieter rest during extended stays aboard.
At sea, twin aft helm stations keep the helmsman close to the side decks, sail controls and cockpit, rather than isolated on a flybridge. The arrangement also gives direct access forward when reefing or preparing a headsail change. A large mainsail and multiple headsails support passage-making across changing wind strengths, while the deep lowered boards help the boat hold an efficient course.
Together, these features suit owners planning long, sociable cruises who still value responsive sailing and direct involvement on deck. The Catana 70 offers substantial guest privacy and workspace, but its scale also brings a larger sail plan and greater handling demands than smaller Catanas. Choose the three-guest-cabin arrangement to emphasize owner space, or the four-guest-cabin arrangement with separate forepeak skipper quarters when hosting capacity takes priority.
