About the Catana 53
The Catana 53 is an Ultimate Series performance cruiser, distinct from the earlier Catana 531. Reverse bows, curved lifting daggerboards and a composite sandwich structure with selective carbon reinforcement support efficient passagemaking and responsive sailing. Lowering the boards adds lateral resistance when sailing to windward, while raising them reduces draft for approaching shallower anchorages and helps owners balance performance with cruising access.
The cockpit and saloon occupy one main level, and broad sliding glass doors unite them for meals, conversation and easy movement at anchor. A modular, extendable saloon adapts from everyday seating to larger dining occasions, while the daybed provides a comfortable place to read, rest or accommodate an occasional sleeper without taking over a private cabin.
Twin aft helms keep the person steering close to the cockpit and provide useful sightlines forward along each side. This arrangement makes communication with guests straightforward and lets the watchkeeper change sides as visibility or sail trim demands. With sheets and controls led toward the working area, a cruising crew can manage manoeuvres without separating the helm from the social space.
For passagemaking owners, the design combines substantial living space with the active sailing character of deep, adjustable foils, so the best fit is a crew willing to handle and maintain daggerboards rather than favour fixed-keel simplicity. Choose the brochure’s three-cabin owner arrangement with separate skipper berth and U-shaped galley for private cruising, or its four-cabin, island-galley arrangement when regular guest capacity matters more.
