About the Windelo 51 Sport

The Windelo 51 Sport brings a distinct performance-cruising identity to CatamaranWorld, pairing a lightweight cruising platform with specialised sailing hardware. Barreau and Neuman designed it, and Windelo builds it at its Canet-en-Roussillon yard. The 51 Sport and 55 Sport both use basalt-fibre skins over PET foam in their hulls, with selected carbon structural bulkheads; the hulls themselves are not fully carbon.

Accommodation can be configured around an L-shaped or U-shaped galley. The owner arrangement combines a dedicated suite and desk with two guest cabins, while the alternative places two cabins in each hull; both provide a pair of showers and toilets. A forward cabin may also serve as an office, bunk room or workshop, so buyers should confirm the selected plan and fitted details for the specific boat.

The protected forward cockpit puts paired steering wheels behind shelter and keeps watchkeeping close to the living area. Carbon daggerboards alter draft, while carbon rudders sharpen the Sport specification; only the daggerboards change draft. Kevlar rigging, a carbon crossbeam, extended bowsprit, 3D membrane sails and traditional jib sheets complete the sailing package. Electric and dual-propulsion choices vary, so compare the fitted installation with Windelo’s published reference electric-hybrid system.

The 51 Sport is derived from the Windelo 50, just as the 55 Sport develops the 54, adding a one-metre-taller carbon mast and the upgraded rig, foils and crossbeam. Against the base 50, the choice is mainly whether the Sport’s sail-handling layout, deeper daggerboard mode and specialised components justify their added complexity and cost. Cruisers prioritising simpler operation may find the standard platform the better fit.
