DeBary Outboard Repair

Operating from a well-equipped shop on East Highbanks Road in DeBary, Florida, this outboard motor repair specialist has built a reputation over more than four decades for straightforward diagnostics, honest pricing, and old-school mechanical expertise. The business is owned and operated by Ed, a seasoned technician who has dedicated his career to servicing 2-stroke outboard motors with a hands-on approach that prioritizes transparency and quality workmanship.

Specializing in engine repair and maintenance for Johnson, Evinrude, Yamaha, and Mercury outboards, the shop handles everything from routine tune-ups and water pump replacements to complete carburetor overhauls and fuel system diagnostics. Ed's deep familiarity with 2-stroke engines—particularly older Johnson models—sets the business apart in a market increasingly dominated by newer technologies. Customers frequently note his ability to diagnose issues quickly and accurately, a skill honed through thousands of repairs on the same engine platforms over the years. The shop also addresses trim system failures, electrical gremlins, and general maintenance needs that keep boats reliable throughout the boating season.

What distinguishes this operation is a unique guarantee Ed calls "the old parts in a bag" promise. Every worn or broken component removed during a repair is placed in a bag and left in the customer's boat, providing tangible proof of the work performed. This practice eliminates guesswork and builds trust, allowing boat owners to see exactly what failed and what was replaced. It's a level of transparency uncommon in marine engine repair, and one that has earned the business a 4.6-star rating across 35 Google reviews.

The shop operates Monday through Friday with a midday break for lunch, maintaining limited but consistent hours that reflect a one-person operation focused on quality over volume. Turnaround times are often measured in days rather than weeks, with many customers reporting their boats were diagnosed, repaired, and returned to the water within 72 hours. This efficiency stems from Ed's diagnostic acumen and a well-stocked parts inventory tailored to the most common failures in the outboard models he services.

Pricing is consistently described as fair and transparent, with estimates provided upfront and no hidden fees appearing on final invoices. Customers appreciate the absence of upselling tactics and the straightforward communication style that defines every interaction. Ed answers the phone directly, discusses issues in plain language, and provides realistic timelines without corporate formalities or unnecessary complexity.

Serving the greater DeBary area and surrounding Volusia County communities, the business has become a go-to resource for boat owners who value technical expertise and personal accountability. Repeat customers—some returning for service on the same motors they've owned for decades—attest to the durability of the repairs and the enduring reliability of Ed's mechanical approach. In a region dense with waterways and recreational boating, DeBary Outboard Repair occupies a niche position as a trusted specialist for older outboard platforms and 2-stroke engines that many modern shops decline to service.
