Overview

Never Chartered Owner’s Version with Generator, Reverse Cycle Air and Just 300 Engine Hours CAVU is pilot shorthand for ceiling and visibility unlimited, and it is a fitting name for a catamaran that wraps her saloon in glass. She is the sought after three cabin Maestro owner’s version of the Lucia 40, with the entire starboard hull set aside as a private suite: an island queen berth aft, a desk and dressing area midships, and a spacious head with a separate shower stall forward. Two double guest cabins and a shared head take up the port hull, so family and friends get real privacy of their own. Berret Racoupeau drew the Lucia 40 to sail well and live large. Her reverse bows, fixed keels and shoal draft make her easy to handle and right at home on the Chesapeake, the ICW and the Bahamas banks, and every line runs to the raised starboard helm so a couple can sail her without calling for crew. Twin Volvo Penta D1-30 diesels show only 300 hours. At anchor, an Onan 7.5 kW generator with just 50 hours runs three Dometic reverse cycle units, one in each hull and one in the saloon, so she is just as comfortable in a Chesapeake August as she is in November. Three solar panels and an inverter/charger take care of the quiet hours. CAVU has never been in charter, and it shows. She has just been prepped…

Additional details

Interior Accommodations and Layout Open the wide sliding glass door and the cockpit and saloon become one level living space. Fountaine Pajot kept the styling clean and European, with light oak Alpi joinery, soft toned bulkheads and panoramic glazing that fills the boat with daylight and makes her feel much bigger than 40 feet. Interior Walk-Through Saloon, Galley and Navigation Station The galley sits aft to port, right by the door, so whoever is cooking can chat with guests at the cockpit table or inside. Forward and to starboard, a U shaped settee wraps the dining table and seats six for dinner with a view out the forward glass. The nav station is tucked forward to port with the main electrical panel, generator controls and VHF close at hand. A 32” TV on a swing arm with a Bose subwoofer, a dedicated reverse cycle heat and air unit, removable interior window shades and two Caframo fans round out the space. Starboard Hull: Owner’s Suite (Maestro Layout) A few easy steps down from the saloon, a sliding door closes off a private suite that runs the full length of the hull. The island queen berth is aft, with drawers underneath and a long hull window right at the waterline. Midships there is a desk and vanity with a bookshelf, hanging lockers and deep wardrobes, and the owner’s head with its separate shower stall fills the bow. The suite has its own 12,000 BTU reverse cycle heat and air unit. Port Hull: Guest Cabins and Shared Head The port companionway leads to two double guest cabins, one aft and one forward, with the shared guest head and shower between them. Each cabin has its own hanging locker, hull window, opening hatch and Caframo fan, and the port hull has its own 12,000 BTU reverse cycle heat and air unit. Interior Styling and Additional Features: • Cabinetry and Joinery: Light oak Alpi woodwork in a satin finish, set against soft toned bulkheads that bounce natural light around the boat. • Flooring: Teak look synthetic sole throughout the saloon and cabins, warm underfoot and easy to keep clean. • Upholstery: Stain resistant marine grade taupe vinyl over high density foam. • Countertops: Resin composite counters in the galley and both heads with molded drip edges and polished stainless fixtures. • Panoramic Saloon Glazing: Wraparound vertical windows give a full view of the anchorage from the settee, while the coachroof overhang keeps the midday sun off the glass. • Hatches and Skylights: Flush opening deck hatches and tinted overhead skylights bring in light and keep a breeze moving through the boat. • Hull Windows: Long horizontal hull windows with opening portlights put sea level views in every cabin. • LED Lighting: Warm white recessed overheads, courtesy step lights and indirect accent lighting for evenings aboard. • Heat and Air: (3) Dometic reverse cycle units: 12,000 BTU in each hull plus a dedicated saloon unit. • Fans: (6) Caframo fans: two in the saloon, two in the owner’s suite and one in each guest cabin. MAIN SALOON The saloon is the heart of CAVU. It sits level with the cockpit through the sliding glass door, has generous headroom and is surrounded by vertical windows for a true 360 degree view. • L Shaped Galley (Aft Port): Right beside the cockpit door, so it serves the saloon table and the cockpit table equally well. Full details under Galley below. • Dining and Lounge (Starboard Forward): A U shaped settee wraps a central dining table that seats six, with views out the forward and side windows. • Navigation Station (Port Forward): Chart desk, main AC/DC breaker panels and generator start/stop controls just forward of the galley. • Entertainment: 32” smart TV on a swing arm and a Bose subwoofer. • Comfort: Dometic reverse cycle heat and air unit, removable interior window shades and (2) Caframo fans. • Hull Access: Companionways on each side lead down to the owner’s suite to starboard and the guest cabins to port. MASTER STATEROOM The whole starboard hull belongs to the owners. A sliding door at the foot of the companionway closes it off, and the space is laid out in three zones from aft to forward: sleeping, dressing and office, and the en suite head. • Island Queen Berth: Fore and aft queen with walkaround access, nightstands, reading lights, LED accent lighting and deep drawers below. A wide hull window with opening portlight and an overhead hatch bring in light and air. • Desk and Dressing Area: Built in desk and vanity with shelving and a reading light, plus full height hanging lockers, shelved cupboards and soft close drawers with room for a liveaboard wardrobe. • Entertainment: 26” TV with DVD player. • Comfort and Power: Dometic 12,000 BTU reverse cycle heat and air unit, (2) Caframo fans and a combination AC outlet with USB charger. • En Suite Head: Owner’s head with separate shower stall in the bow (details below). Master Head Taking up the entire forward end of the starboard hull, the owner’s head is the kind of bathroom you rarely find on a 40 foot catamaran, with separate areas for the vanity, the toilet and the shower. • Vanity: Long resin composite counter with integrated basin and chrome mixer, a large mirror over shelved cabinets, and storage below. • Electric Freshwater Head: Quiet electric freshwater flush toilet plumbed to a 12 gallon holding tank with deck pump out and overboard discharge. • Separate Shower Stall: Fully enclosed behind a clear acrylic door with an adjustable chrome shower wand, corner shelf, teak grate and automatic sump pump, so the rest of the head stays dry. • Ventilation and Lighting: Opening deck hatch and sealed recessed LED downlights. GUEST CABIN (PORT AFT) The aft guest cabin sits at the foot of the port companionway, only a few steps from the saloon and cockpit. • Berth: Raised double berth running fore and aft with a step for easy access. • Light and Air: Large hull window with opening portlight and an overhead deck hatch. • Storage and Amenities: Full height hanging locker, shelving, drawers under the berth, reading lights and 12V/USB charging. • Comfort: Dometic 12,000 BTU reverse cycle heat and air unit for the port hull, plus (1) Caframo fan. GUEST CABIN (PORT FORWARD) Forward in the port hull, the second guest cabin is just as bright and private, with the guest head right next door. • Berth: Double berth angled to make the most of the hull’s volume and floor space. • Light and Air: Long hull window and an overhead opening hatch. • Storage: Outboard hanging locker, shelves along the hull side and deep storage beneath the berth. • Comfort: Port hull reverse cycle heat and air plus (1) Caframo fan. GUEST HEAD Between the two guest cabins, the guest head serves both staterooms and doubles as the day head. Molded fiberglass surfaces make it simple to wash down and keep fresh. • Vanity and Sink: Resin composite counter with integrated basin, chrome mixer, mirrored cabinet above and storage below. • Electric Freshwater Head: Electric freshwater flush toilet plumbed to a 12 gallon holding tank with deck pump out and overboard discharge. • Shower: Integrated shower with handheld wand, molded shelving and an automatic sump pump. • Ventilation and Lighting: Opening deck hatch and sealed LED overhead lights. Galley The L shaped galley sits aft to port, right at the sliding door, so serving the cockpit table is as easy as serving the saloon. With windows all around, the cook gets the same view as everyone else. • Countertops: Seamless resin composite counters with molded fiddles to keep things in place underway. • Cooking: Three burner gas cooktop and a separate built in gas oven. • Sink: Double stainless sink with a high neck chrome mixer. • Refrigeration: (2) stainless Vitrifrigo refrigerator drawers plus a stainless Isotherm front opening freezer. • Storage: Plenty of drawers, overhead cupboards, a dedicated trash locker and shelving, all in satin light oak Alpi. Navigation and Electronics NAVIGATION STATION The nav station sits forward to port in the saloon, just ahead of the galley and looking out through the forward windows, so you can keep an eye on conditions underway while staying warm and dry. • Chart Table: Raised lip chart desk in light oak Alpi with storage under the lid for charts, guides and tools, plus a flexible reading light and 12V/USB sockets. • Electrical Panel: Main AC and DC breaker panel with digital battery monitoring, fuel and freshwater tank gauges and bilge pump controls. • Generator Controls: Remote start/stop panel and hour meter for the Onan generator. • Communications: Fixed mount VHF with DSC and the Fusion stereo head unit. • Storage: Cabinets below the desk for manuals and ship’s papers. HELM STATIONS - STARBOARD The helm is raised on the starboard bulkhead with bench seating, clear sightlines forward and down both sides, and every line led within reach, so one person can sail her comfortably. • Multifunction Display: Raymarine eS127 with chart plotting, radar overlay, depth and vessel data right at the wheel. • Autopilot: Raymarine P70 control head for heading hold, wind vane mode and dodge. • Instruments: Raymarine i70 displays for apparent and true wind, boat speed, depth and water temperature. • VHF Remote Mic: Waterproof second station handset at the wheel with full channel control and DSC. • Engine Controls: Dual engine panels and throttles for both Volvo Pentas. • Sail Handling: Electric winch, manual self tailing winches and rope clutches all within reach of the wheel. • Weather Protection: New bimini and new helm enclosure (09/2026). Construction and Key Features of the Hull and Deck HULL Fountaine Pajot builds the Lucia 40 with vacuum infusion, which gives a stiff, light hull with a consistent glass to resin ratio. Berret Racoupeau shaped the hulls for good tracking and load carrying without giving up sailing performance. • Infused Hulls: Isophthalic polyester resin and multiaxial glass over closed cell PVC foam core above the waterline, with solid fiberglass below for impact resistance. • Osmosis Protection: Isophthalic gelcoat and a vinylester barrier coat applied during lamination. • Watertight Bulkheads: Collision bulkheads in both bows and sealed engine compartments aft. • Fixed Keels: Low aspect composite keels protect the saildrives and rudders and keep the draft shoal.
